I don't know where they came from, or how long they have been here, but I found a box of books in my closet yesterday. In with the box of books were several atkins books. They look brand new. I sure don't recall purchasing them, but there they were, along with several of my books.
I like what I'm doing right now. I feel like I'm eating healthy, and I feel like I'm getting enough exercise. Do I need to read these books? I have serious doubts I need to read them. But I'm going to.
I know a guy, he's about 45ish. He's been doing a modified atkins diet for awhile now. He looks great. He's lost about 57 pounds in a few months time. I had lunch with him recently, and we ate at a buffet. I'm here to say, a buffet on a calorie counting diet is really hard! He didn't count anything. He stays away from most of the bad carbs and some of the vegie carbs, like corn. Since I found these books I've been thinking a lot about the atkins diet. I thought I'd talk with him and see how his last test results came out. If it hasn't raised his cholesterol or blood pressure I might consider going atkins. For now, I'll stick to my 1200 calories a day.

Give it a try, if it doesn't work for you try something a bit different.
I tried Atkins, gained tons - but it was too much food me. I even called them and spoke with a professional at their clinic - they said EAT CARBS! or your metabolism shuts down. I thought that was rather odd coming from the atkins clinic.
I stick with small amounts of lean protein now, lots of veggies, some fruit.
I am trying a new plan I just read about - I am adding what is called "carb cycling" that I just read about - having a good carb (like a sweet potato) once every 3 or 4 days to keep the metabolism from shutting down. The diet plan also recommended oatmeal for breakfast (a balance of protein, fiber, and good carb)
I'll have to read up on carb cycling, after I finish reading more about the atkins plan. I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast for a while now, and I love sweet potatoes. So it not only sounds interesting, but I'd like the food. That's always a good plus!
